Now I’ve heard a lot of people say that 2020 was a train wreck. I’m not going to disagree, but i think blaming everything bad that’s happening around you for a year, isn’t going to help. People are saying that 2021 isn’t much better, again. Now a lot of terrible things have happened, are still happening – and probably are still left to happen. Dwelling on it wont change that.
In the UK we have been in our third lock down or a while, and things are starting to open up. 1st it was meeting up with one other person for any reason (until this point you could only meet for the reason of exercise), then we had the return of ‘The Rule of 6’ – 6 people could meet for any reason outside. And soon we will be authorised to stay away from our homes overnight. That coupled with the gradual opening of the hospitality industry, soon it will be the time of the STAYCATION.
There are many things wrong with this, and the main one is it’s a bit of an Americanism. It’s a word made up of two words(urg) Vacation(urg x2) and Stay (… we can spend nights away from home now, so how does this work, we ain’t staying anywhere, we are leaving …Urggg x3). What it really means is .. we can stay in our families ( 2 households, or, the rule of 6) and go to a hotel, an airBnB, a holiday cottage, etc. We can’t leave the country for leisure (or risk a massive fine).
Going back to the initial paragraph about doom and gloom, dwelling on that wont change it, really i guess we should be thankful that things have improved this much, that we can almost finally start living out our lives again.
What i’m trying to say is every man, woman, child in the country has been on house arrest for the best part of a year, and they are now starting the country up again, there is going to be a mad rush to go away, campsites are going to be booking fast, so think about getting your bookings in early.
A Project I’ve been working on related to this is HerdingFrogs.co.uk. My family have spent a lot of time at home, now the situation is looking up, and we can start spending time with family and friends again (socially distanced of course). In the pre plague times, I remember trying to organise day trips, camping trips, meetups for friends and family. It was a pain , “ i can’t do this date, but i can do any day other than that” “i don’t like that place, can we do XYZ instead” etc.
So i’ve created a website/app to work with me to solve this problem. I can basically put my social calendar, trip ideas, meetups on there, share the link, if people want to come they can sign up.
I’ve already added the next few weeks of my life on there and shared the link. Already I’ve had messages ( the website uses Telegram to keep you up to date with new events / sign-ups ) telling me people are coming on walks.
See you in the real world – from 2m away.
