Legs

There is not much to say here, shorts / trousers / what ever … fancy hiking cloths, cheap joggers. I cant ever see a place for jeans or similar in summer they will be to hot, in winter they will be to cold, and also be bad if they get wet.

Something else you might want to consider is water proof over trousers, keep them in your bag, if a rain shower passes over they are handy just in case.

I try and keep my pockets empty ( i have a bag … might as well use it) so i don’t sit down and loose something .. like my keys … again ….

whatever the weather, the point i’m trying to make is, of all the weather that is possible here today… and on top of that, of all the weather that is likely today … how bad will it be for me and my group if we get that. For example you might for a walk in the park, id be OK with a t-shirt and a jumper, because, worst case it might be snow/hail/gale force winds/ torrential rain, but I’m 2 min walk across the park from the car. If your 1/2 way up the side of a hill 2h walk from anywhere, there’s a rain shower, a breeze and all you have is a t-shirt and a jumper – you going to be in a bad place, cold and no way out of that situation.

Do i need to wear winter lined mountaineering trousers everywhere on the off chance it might snow, no, but i need to be prepared to deal with that if its likely to happen. is that stay close to my car/home/a way out if bad weather id likely, or take extra kit. either way going further a field in bad weather is going to require more experience and more equipment.

The other thing that should also be taken into consideration, is your fitness level. Can you walk 15 miles over hilly terrain? Can you walk 8 miles on a footpath round a reservoir on a nice flat maintained footpath.

You need you get out there, start small and easy, and build up, work out what your limits are. and slowly build them from there.
